Our Story

Moonji began in a family kitchen, where founder Abilasha Bhohi grew up watching spices treated as medicine as much as flavour. After years in the wellness world she set out to make an ice cream that felt like both: indulgence that nourishes the senses and the soul.

Every flavour starts with the Ayurvedic pantry: cardamom, cinnamon, masala spices. No dairy, no artificial anything, nothing you can't pronounce.

Where it began

Born from culture, intuition and a gap in the dessert aisle.

“Our mission is to bridge the gap between wellbeing and the dessert category. Ice cream brings so much joy. Why don't we make it more nourishing too?”

Abilasha Bhohi

Founder & Creative Director

Growing up, my love for wellness was shaped by my mum, who taught me that cooking with whole, natural ingredients is an act of care. Travelling deepened that further: I would instinctively reach for Indian spices and aromatics whenever I cooked for people, and the response reminded me that what came naturally to me was genuinely valuable.

Inspired by those flavours, my Indian heritage, and a passion for clean, conscious living, I created Moonji to share those values through ice cream. It started at home, infusing spices the way you'd brew a traditional chai, and became a business rooted in ingredient integrity above all else.

The philosophy

Ice cream, upgraded by ancient wisdom.

Ayurveda has guided how people eat, heal and thrive for thousands of years. Traditionally, cold foods like ice cream sit uneasily within that framework, but Abi saw that as the brief, not the barrier. By infusing warming spices, digestive-supporting ingredients and functional botanicals directly into the base, Moonji makes ice cream that works with your body rather than against it.

What guides us

Three principles. Zero compromise.

Ingredient Integrity

Every ingredient is chosen with intent. Real Alphonso mango from India. Madagascan vanilla pods. Ceremonial-grade matcha. Whole spices infused directly into the base. We don't use anything we wouldn't want to explain.

Culture as Craft

Cardamom, chai, mango lassi: these are not flavour trends borrowed from a trend report. They are part of Abi's lived experience, chosen because they belong, not because they were popular. That authenticity shapes every product decision we make.

Joy Without Guilt

We believe pleasure and nourishment can coexist in the same spoonful. Moonji is not diet food dressed up as dessert. It is ice cream made with enough care that you don't have to choose between feeling good and feeling indulgent.

The journey

Abi's journey, churned into every tub

“I grew up watching spices treated as medicine as much as flavour. Moonji is that kitchen, churned.”

For Abilasha, ice cream was never just dessert. It's saffron warmed in her grandmother's kitchen, cardamom cracked by hand, the belief that indulgence should nourish the senses and the soul. She left the wellness world to prove it, churning small batches in her own kitchen until they were good enough to sell.
